Compare the properties of everyday materials, paper and wood, with your pupils, exploring which objects are made from them and why. Then, conduct a scientific investigation into the strength of different types of paper. This science lesson has been designed for ages 5-7, but can be edited to suit.

Using debate cards, they’ll argue for and against paper use, separate myths from facts, and then write an engaging, persuasive article based on what they’ve learned about sustainably managed forests and the paper industry.

Get hands-on and explore how to strengthen and reinforce paper to build mini model shelters. The pupils will then investigate and evaluate the strength and stability of their structures. This lesson has been designed for ages 7-9, but can be edited to suit.
